Gravatar Photo is changed and updated

As mentioned earlier today, I have now updated the Gravatar photo to this site. As it’s not just me anymore, it’s me and my mum.

Hopefully I can persuade her to submit a few additional writings and/or poems for me to blog on her behalf. But at least you, my readers, may appreciate her writings as well as my own.

We’ll see. Meanwhile I’m still editing her novel “A Tangled Web” and I’m enjoying reading it again as I’m going along. And I expect I’ll have fun reading it a couple or so more times before I commit it to e-publishing in a couple of month’s time.

As I sign off my Blogs RLB – Tomewriter, My mum’s sign off will be: VEB – Tomewriter – Now I’ve just got to work on her to come up with some writing.

Updated Details of this site

Seeing as how I am now including my mother’s works on this site, thought it best to include her name in the site details. I will also be changing the domain photo, when I have time to search through all my snaps and find a nice one of mum and me. I’ve got one in mind, so will see if it loads up ok.

Meanwhile, as they say “watch this space”.

 There’s not much to say about births, except we are born. To some, birth may never actually happen as we die in the womb. If we are lucky or unlucky, depending on your point of view, we may be born, but may die before you can say we’ve actually lived. We may live a few years or to a ripe old age. Sometime between being born and death we may or may not get married. Marriage, how does one define it? The union between two persons, regardless of sex, creed and/or race! Whether compatible or not; at one stage in their relationship they choose to commit to a life time of bondage to each other. Except that the “perfect” marriage does not always succeed; and disillusioned by their failure to create their ideal world, the marriage ends in separation and divorce. And just when you think you won’t ever do it again, you do. Perhaps once or several times more – will we ever get it right? Until eventually you do find peace, but then you are lying in an open coffin, lifeless eyes staring into closed eyelids and waiting for a chance to do it all over again in a new life sometime in the future……..

HRW – Round Robin # 46 – “A Poem”

For those of you who have been following my blog you will know that I have been a member of Hawkesbury River Writers [HRW] since 2009. One of the things we get up to is set ourselves a challenge [an in-house competition if you like to call it]. The topics chosen may vary – from poetry to short story, article or speech. Whatever it is it has to meet certain guidelines, but must always have a “Readability” content, and there’s always a time limit – usually midnight on the Sunday before our next meeting which gives us a month to complete. After submission, the entries are sent out anonymously to all members to vote upon and provide their comments [the latter of course is the most invaluable part of the entire exercise, as to read what fellow writers have to say about your writing is what this is all about – otherwise how else are we to improve?].

The last Round Robin set was a poem. My entry was as follows:

“Love is dead” – By Robert L J Borg

The gallant shield of chivalry tumbles,

Upon the ground beneath the knight.

Away to distant places, travels

The crusader of love and fight.

As his venomous sword pierces

The delicate flesh of time,

His armour reflects the gore around,

The filth and the slime.

But now, as the blood flows,

It forms a stream of sadness;

Winding aimlessly toward the sea,

Driving all, to sudden madness.

Upon a steed so proud,

Evil lurked in all its elegance;

Looking down on the world below,

Planning out his macabre vengeance.

Fire and destruction were the call;

The fiend rode out ahead.

Then blackness absorbed all life,

For now, all life was dead.

Entry # 4. Love is dead  (Robert)

Lynette: The images in this poem are powerful, and the rhythm and rhyme satisfying (if I can say that). I confess I found the title, the last line and the overall darkness of the poem hard to relate to.

Barry: A gory story with a dark ending BUT it has good readability.

Meryl: I liked the concept of this one but found it went out of rhythm and some words had to be read in a contrived manner to be made to fit.

Jan: The rhyming pattern is good with a mixture of masculine and feminine rhymes. This entry doesn’t follow an established rhythm pattern, and I wonder if it might not be better as free verse. I have to admit to being not altogether sure what the poet is saying. It is a very visual but its deeper meaning escapes me.

Julianne: Passionate and colourful, sad and hopeless yet, enigmatic. All is lost to the dictates of war, or is it? Perhaps he is spared. Perhaps he lives on to find love either for the first time or once again. Throughout time, so many young men lost their lives in battle before ever having known the love of a woman. I wonder if your warrior was one such young man or if he could at least had the sweet memory of love to take with him to his grave?

Hugh: I had to read this poem several times to absorb the full meaning. It was worth the effort. I am not sure about rhyme and meter but I don’t really care. The poem had real substance for me and was worth the read. It was epic in its presentation which is no mean feat in so few lines.

To Tell Three Tales – Published

To Tell Three Tales has been published today. Once again I am grateful for the great work Judy Bullard has done with creating a fantastic cover for the book. When she sent it through to me earlier this week I blown away by its sheer beauty and excellent craftsmanship. She has captured the titles of the three stories perfectly with the three images portrayed that I feel the book has to be a success……….. Here’s hoping!

To Tell Three Tales – Coming Soon

Many years ago, as my son was growing up, I wrote a few short stories to read to him at bedtime. It seemed like a good idea at the time and, as they say, I had a captive audience. Looking back on three of these stories recently, which are all for a similar age group [7-10 year olds], I thought it would be nice to be able to share them with other kids.

I have therefore decided to put them together into a compendium and have them published through . I have contacted Judy Bullard about having a cover designed and have applied for an ISBN. This weekend I shall be putting the final touches and edits to the “book” making it ready for publication by the end of this month if not sooner.

I am releasing this one as myself as Author – i.e. not using one of my pen names as I keep those two for adult fiction only.

As they say….. “Watch this space”. As soon as it is released I shall be creating a new page on the Blog for it as I have done for my other books. And as soon as this book is published, as promised to my mum, I will start work on her second novel: A Tangled Web. My own second novel, as I have previously mentioned in my blog: “Promises”, will have to wait a bit longer.
